Explore the Mayan Ruins of San Gervasio. Hike through trails and visit Villa Maya.

  • Hike through a Tropical Dry Forest.
  • Participate in a pre-Hispanic musical workshop.

 

Explore the Mayan world and the islands’ interior. There you will hike through the Tropical Dry Forest and the archaeological site of San Gervasio. During your adventure you will experience a pre-Hispanic musical workshop, a guide will lead you through this Mesoamerican sounds. You will visit the private reserve of Villa Maya.


Things to know before you go:

  • This destination is a remote private natural reserve without electricity.
  • The expedition requires good physical condition.
  • You will bicycle for 4 Km. and / or hike on trails for 6 Km.
  • Bring a backpack, long pants and shirtsleeves, hiking or tennis shoes, hat, sunglasses and suntan lotion.
  • Reservations are a must. Capacity is limited.

IMPORTANT: This adventure is not suitable for people with chronic cardiac conditions, recent surgeries, chronic hyper or hypotension and respiratory problems.

 

Ruins at San Gervasio

ITINERARY

10:00 a.m.: Check in and register at the Cozumel Museum on main street
11:00 a.m.: Transportation to the ruins of San Gervasio
12:30 p.m.: Mountain bike ride or hick to Villa Maya
1:00 p.m.: Arrive at Villa Maya & Light lunch
1:30 p.m.: pre-Hispanic musical workshop
2:00 p.m.: Hike through the Tropical Dry Forest
3:00 a.m.: Hike and bike back San Gervasio
3:30 a.m.: Transportation back to downtown Cozumel

 

Several facilities are present in
Villa Maya to serve participants.
Among these are:

  • Entrance/assembling area
  • Restrooms and showers
  • Mayan cabañas with hammocks
  • Campfire site “El Tuuch”
  • Temazcal
  • Observatory
  • Signs showing the way
  • Signs indicating tree-species and their Mayan use
  • 10,000 Meters of cleared trails
